Home Page

Welcome to my web site.

3.8.1927 – 19.9.2012
Charles Stock passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness aged 85.
He will be missed.

This is the story of one Essex man and his boat on the Essex Coast over the last forty-five years.

Shoal Waters, built from the best hull available and completed in 1963 to my own design with the gear from an old half-decker bought in 1948. Over 70,000 nautical miles have been made good from Maldon between Whitby, Ostend and the Solent.

Over sixty articles on her voyages have appeared in the yachting press including articles in French, German and American!

For over thirty years I have taught sailing and navigation to evening classes and was on the RYA training committee in the early days of the present scheme. Over the years I have given colour slide lectures to clubs as far afield to the I.oW. too York and Manchester.

My Book ‘Sailing Just for Fun’ has sold well over 4000 copies and I contributed one of the nine chapters in the American book ‘Sailing Small’.
